  • ‘The one percent’ is a phrase that refers to the international growth of the super-rich since the 1970s and the increasing concentration of wealth in a tiny proportion of the global population. A quick Google finds many websites and articles examining this phenomena eg a Sept 2022 Credit Suisse report noted that the top 1%’s share of total global wealth continued to rise yearly and had reached 45.6% in 2021. ‘The one percent’ is also a phrase associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement, whose intellectual leader was the highly influential economic anthropologist and sociologist Dave Graeber.
